Gardening always brings joy to those of us who practice it and see it as part of our lives. It is true that I was not able to tend to my plants as I wanted while on vacation, but whether I am resting or not, I have created and found moments to dedicate to my plants.

I want to begin by sharing that I only have two zamioculca plants left, the third one that I thought would survive died, I dared to look for its roots and in the pot there was absolutely nothing, but these are the things that happen when we are learning, each plant needs a particular treatment for transplanting.

On the other hand, although I had thought of transplanting two of my jades in the end I decided to prune them, I really don't want to end up with a thousand big pots at home which I can't even move, at first, I thought I had exaggerated, but the two plants I pruned have already started to give new tiny leaves which makes me happy, I took advantage of some of the branches I cut and planted them in a pot, so now I will have 5 jade plants indoors.

Also, I removed the soil from the green peperomia. The truth is that it looked very hard and the pot was very heavy, so I took advantage of it and put some charcoal in its bottom to make it lighter and also to facilitate the drainage of the substrate, it is currently being readapted.

The watermelon peperomia is doing very well, but one of my cats is the one that bites the plants and sadly she tore it off a new stem that was born, so now I must be attentive to this youngster so that it does not damage my plants.

Last week I received a cutting of a plant that according to my investigations they call Moses or reo (Tradescantia spathacea) and thanks to her that is already in a pot, I confirmed which of my cats is the one that is nibbling the plants, so I took precautions to keep this little one away from her.

On the other hand, I began to place some plants on the stairs of the building, I removed their soil and added more, at first there were three, a mother-in-law's tongue, a bromeliad and a Philodendron, at the moment I only left two because some other cat (yes they are all terrible) began to use the soil from the pot of the mother-in-law's tongue as a bath, so I was forced to take it down to the garden.

Thinking about these and some houseplants, I painted some old metal brackets my mother had that were rusty, but with a little white oil paint and they look great.

In short, I am very pleased with how my plants look, including the cacti that I thought would not survive, but they have adapted wonderfully to their new spaces, which is great for me, because I see that the effort I made to save them was not in vain. So, without a doubt, gardening is a pleasant activity that gives us results in the short, medium and long term, as the case may be, and if we do not obtain the desired results, we always learn for future attempts.

La jardinería siempre aporta alegría a quienes la practicamos y la vemos como parte de nuestra vida. Es cierto que no pude atender mis plantas como quería estando de vacaciones, pero sea que esté o no descansando, he creado y encontrado momentos para dedicar a mis plantas.

Deseo comenzar compartiendo que de manera definitiva solo me han quedado dos plantas de zamioculca, la tercera que creí sobreviviría murió, me atrevía buscar sus raíces y en la maceta no había absolutamente nada, pero son esas cosas de las que ocurren cuando estamos aprendiendo, cada planta necesita un trato en particular para trasplante.

Por otra parte, aunque había pensado en trasplantar dos de mis jades al final decidí podarlos, la verdad no deseo terminar con mil macetas grandes en casa las cuales luego no pueda ni movilizar, al principio, creí había exagerado, pero ya las dos plantas que pode ya han comenzado a dar nuevas hojas pequeñitas lo que me alegra, aproveche algunas de las ramas que corte y las sembré en una maceta, así que ahora tendré 5 plantas de jade en interiores.

También, removí la tierra de la peperomia verde. La verdad se veía muy dura y la maceta pesaba horrores, así que aproveché y en su fofo coloqué un poco de carbón vegetal para que estuviera más liviana y también para facilitar el drenaje del sustrato, actualmente se está readaptando.

La peperomia sandia va muy bien, pero una de mis gatas es la que muerde las plantas y tristemente me la arrancó un nuevo tallo que nacía, así que ahora debo estar atenta a esta jovencita para que no dañe mis plantas.

La semana pasada recibí un esqueje de una planta a la que de acuerdo a mis investigaciones llaman Moisés o reo (Tradescantia spathacea) y gracias ella que ya está en una maceta, confirme cuál de mis gatas en la que anda mordisqueando las plantas, así que tome previsiones para alejar a esta pequeña de ella.

Por otra parte, comencé a colocar algunas plantas en las escaleras del edificio les removí su tierra y agregue más, en un principio eran tres una lengua de suegra una bromelia y una Filodendro, actualmente solo deje dos porque algún otro gato (si todos son terribles) empezó a usar la tierra de la maceta de la lengua de suegra de baño, por lo que me vi obligaba a bajarla a los jardines.

Pensando en estos y en algunas plantas de interiores, pinté unos antiguos soportes de metal que tenía mi madre que estaban oxidados, pero con un poco de pintura de aceite blanca y lucen estupendos.

En resumen, estoy muy complacida con como lucen mis plantas, incluidos los cactus que creí, no sobrevivirían, pero se han adaptado de maravilla a sus nuevos espacios, lo que para mí es grandioso, pues veo que el esfuerzo que hice por salvarlos no fue en vano. Así que, sin lugar a dudas, la jardinería es una actividad grata que va dándonos resultados a corto, mediano y largo plazo, según sea el caso, y de no obtener los resultados deseados, siempre obtenemos aprendizaje para futuros intentos.
