Hola familia de #geekzone , hoy será mi primer respiro en esta comunidad de amantes de la tecnología. Compartiré con ustedes una de mis más preciadas pasiones, que es todo lo relacionado al mundo del Audio Vintage de Alta Fidelidad.

Capítulo 1

Aspectos Introductorios

Doy inicio a la serie Audio Vintage en #Hive, donde expondré los aspectos que considero de más importancia para aquellas personas que les guste el audio y quieran incursionar en esta interesante y bella pasión.

Iré abordando los temas desde la base a los detalles, con un lenguaje asequible y sin caer en tanto tecnicismo, para recorrer los distintos eslabones que integran una cadena de equipos de audio de este tipo, con vista a su mejor desempeño.

No me referiré a la música cantada o tocada por un instrumento musical y después grabada y procesada digitalmente con un software o tarjetas de audio internas o externas.

Tampoco al audio profesional que pueden ver, cuando van a un concierto, estan en una actividad al aire libre y se usan grandes parlantes, líneas de cables con grandes conectores, micrófonos, compresores, potencias y mezcladores.

Mi hobby es ese audio para uso personal en una casa, pero con la peculiaridad de ser emitido por equipos antiguos, donde predominan las fuentes analógicas, y donde la potencia en volumen no es lo más importante, si no la calidad de esa música que acaricia a nuestros tímpanos.

Con frecuencia las personas confunden lo Vintage con lo Retro y aunque pueda parecer igual, tiene una gran diferencia. Un equipo tecnológico del tipo que sea, será retro, cuando se diseñó y fabricó en la actualidad pero con la apariencia o estética de los construidos en épocas pasadas.

Para ejemplificar, hay tiendas que han vendido gramófonos, donde le incluyen hasta un tuner o radio digital y un reproductor de disco compacto. Esto jamás será un equipo vintage, es un híbrido o combo ya que incorpora en una misma unidad varias funciones. En éste caso es un equipo retro donde se le adjuntaron funcionalidades de equipos actuales.

Es importante conocer estos detalles, porque hay personas que han comprado un gramófono con estas características, pensando que es una pieza original, y pueden caer presa de estafadores o de vendedores que puedan desconocer la realidad de lo que ofertan.
Es una gran verdad el aforismo en latín, que partió del pensamiento del filósofo inglés Francis Bacon “El Conocimiento es Poder”.

Un equipo de audio se puede catalogar como vintage, cuando tiene una edad mínima de 20 años desde su fabricación. Lo reflejará en los materiales de su acabado cosmético y en su diseño, el que puedes con frecuencia corroborar online, sabiendo su marca y modelo específico, poder ver sus fotos, sus especificaciones y los detalles de su historia.

¿Qué tiene el Audio Vintage que seduce cada día a más personas?

Les responderé, desde mi propia experiencia en este hobby que ya pasa los 30 años, y pienso que son 4 factores principales:

La calidad del sonido

Lo más importante de todo equipo de audio es el resultado final o el audio que nos entrega. Esas vibraciones que discriminamos a nivel de nuestro aparato auditivo, y que al ser emitidos por estos equipos analógicos, nos regalan unas notas y frecuencias sonoras, lo más fiel posible a la realidad que percibimos en la naturaleza.

Un sonido que nos llega con cuerpo, sin saturaciones, con la menor compresión posible, que puede ser plano en su respuesta, con baja distorsión y que no abruma a nuestros sentidos.

En el mundo en que vivimos, los sonidos generados en la naturaleza, por los seres vivos o por instrumentos de viento, cuerda y percusión, son las señales vibratorias energéticas reales.
Lo más cercano o análogo a éstas, es el sonido analógico, compuesto por ondas continuas que nuestros oídos son capaces de escuchar. No así el audio digital, que es a saltos, donde se toman varios puntos de referencia de la onda sonora analógica, pasando por un procesamiento electrónico que la convierte a digital. Ello lleva a que se pierdan valores y frecuencias intermedias, respecto a la fuente original.

Una construcción perdurable en el tiempo

Los equipos de audio de la época de los 70 al 90, se hacían con materiales de gran calidad, simples y atractivos a la vista, con cuerpos o chasis metálicos en su exterior, y se usaban componentes electrónicos de buena calidad acordes a su época. Y aunque duren tiempo, sus partes se cambian o se les da el mantenimiento acorde para que sigan con vida.

Un equipo moderno para consumo general, se hace liviano en su peso, generalmente de plástico por fuera, y como sabemos, es más proclive al deterioro cosmético. Se usan componentes baratos que tienden a durar menos en su funcionalidad. En fin, se crean y tienen una Obsolescencia Programada para que su vida útil sea corta y tengamos que comprar otro modelo nuevo cuando este se rompa o deje de funcionar.
No obstante, actualmente también se hacen equipos modernos con gran calidad, son bien caros y para compradores más selectos que puedan adquirirlos.

Los equipos de Audio Vintage son una buena inversión de tu dinero

En la época actual, la pasión por todo lo vintage, crece cada día. Se crean canales, grupos, foros y websites donde apreciamos el florecimiento y desarrollo de esos productos. En el audio de alta fidelidad, es algo que muestra una tendencia alcista.
Los componentes de audio, sobre todo, las series topes de línea o modelos escasos, son piezas que cada año suben de precio, valor y son muy cotizados entre los Audiófilos.

El placer que nos aportan, desde el punto de vista emocional y espiritual

Por ejemplo, en mi casa atesoro con gran amor un tocadisco marca Zenith, con su mueble de madera, que era un equipo que usaba mi abuelo Antonio. Gracias a su pasión por la música y lo relacionado a la tecnología, ya que era un respetado ingeniero eléctrico, yo tengo los mismos gustos heredados de él.

También conservo un dinamo que el mismo construyó y que introdujo en una cajita de madera. Tiene su manivela y aún funciona, entregando gran corriente, a pesar de los años que tiene.

De mi padre, que es médico de profesión y con 94 años, guardo varios de sus instrumentos y equipos que usaba a nivel hospitalario, ejemplo: oftalmoscopios, microscopios, sus libros, etc.

De la misma forma que tengo mis recuerdos, cada persona podrá tenerlos también en sus casas. Como gemas sagradas, donde sólo con apreciar el objeto que perteneció a un familiar querido, o tener uno similar, les hará revivir momentos únicos y hermosos que sólo besamos en el cofre de nuestras memorias.

Introductory Aspects

I start the Vintage Audio series in #Hive, where I will expose the aspects that I consider most important for those who like audio and want to venture into this interesting and beautiful passion.

I will be addressing the issues from the base to the details, with an accessible language and without falling into so much technicality, to go through the various links that make up a chain of audio equipment of this type, with a view to its best performance.

I will not refer to the music sung or played by a musical instrument and then recorded and digitally processed with software or internal or external audio cards.

Nor the professional audio that you may see, when you go to a concert, are at an outdoor activity and use large speakers, cable lines with large connectors, microphones, compressors, power and mixers.

My hobby is that audio for personal use in a house, but with the peculiarity of being emitted by old equipment, where analog sources predominate, and where the power in volume is not the most important thing, but the quality of that music that caresses our eardrums.

Often people confuse Vintage with Retro and although it may seem the same, it has a big difference. A technological equipment of any kind, will be retro, when it was designed and manufactured today but with the appearance or aesthetics of those built in the past.

For example, there are stores that have sold gramophones, where they even include a tuner or digital radio and a compact disc player. This will never be a vintage equipment, it is a hybrid or combo since it incorporates in the same unit several functions. In this case it is a retro equipment where they were attached functionalities of current equipment.

It is important to know these details, because there are people who have bought a gramophone with these characteristics, thinking that it is an original piece, and may fall prey to fraudsters or sellers who may not know the reality of what they offer.
It is a great truth the Latin aphorism, which came from the thought of the English philosopher Francis Bacon "Knowledge is Power".

An audio equipment can be cataloged as vintage, when it has a minimum age of 20 years since its manufacture. It will reflect this in the materials of its cosmetic finish and in its design, which you can often corroborate online, knowing its specific make and model, being able to see its photos, its specifications and the details of its history.

What is it about Vintage Audio that seduces more and more people every day?

I will answer you, from my own experience in this hobby that is now over 30 years old, and I think there are 4 main factors:

The sound quality

The most important thing of all audio equipment is the final result or the audio that it gives us. Those vibrations that we discriminate at the level of our auditory apparatus, and that when being emitted by these analog equipment, give us notes and sound frequencies, as faithful as possible to the reality that we perceive in nature.

A sound that reaches us with body, without saturation, with the least possible compression, that can be flat in its response, with low distortion and that does not overwhelm our senses.

In the world in which we live, the sounds generated in nature, by living beings or by wind, string and percussion instruments, are the real energetic vibrational signals.
The closest or analogous to these is analog sound, composed of continuous waves that our ears are able to hear. Not so the digital audio, which is in jumps, where several reference points of the analog sound wave are taken, passing through an electronic processing that converts it to digital. This leads to the loss of intermediate values and frequencies, with respect to the original source.

An enduring construction over time

Audio equipment from the 70's to the 90's were made with high quality materials, simple and attractive to the eye, with metal bodies or chassis on the outside, and good quality electronic components were used according to their time. And even if they last for a long time, their parts are replaced or maintained to keep them alive.

Modern consumer equipment is made light in weight, usually plastic on the outside, and as we know, is more prone to cosmetic deterioration. Cheap components are used that tend to last less in functionality. In short, they are created and have a Programmed Obsolescence so that their useful life is short and we have to buy another new model when it breaks or stops working.
However, nowadays they also make modern equipment with great quality, they are very expensive and for more select buyers who can afford them.

Vintage Audio equipment is a good investment of your money

In today's era, the passion for everything vintage is growing every day. Channels, groups, forums and websites are created where we appreciate the flourishing and development of these products. In hi-fi audio, it is something that shows a upward trend.
The audio components, especially the top of the line series or rare models, are pieces that every year rise in price, value and are very sought after among audiophiles.

The pleasure they bring us, from an emotional and spiritual point of view

For example, in my house I treasure with great love a Zenith, record player with its wooden cabinet, which was a piece of equipment used by my grandfather Antonio. Thanks to his passion for music and technology, as he was a respected electrical engineer, I have the same tastes inherited from him.

I also have a dynamo that he built himself and that he put in a little wooden box. It has its crank and still works, delivering great current, despite the years it has.

From my father, who is a doctor by profession and 94 years old, I keep several of his instruments and equipment that he used at the hospital level, for example: ophthalmoscopes, microscopes, his books, etc.

In the same way that I have my memories, each person can also have them in their homes. Like sacred gems, where just appreciating the object that belonged to a beloved relative, or having a similar one, will make them relive unique and beautiful moments that we only kiss in the chest of our memories.
