Sigur Rós for Three Tune Tuesday Week 58
How are ye now you music loving rockers from Rio to Rosmuck, today is Tuesday, which can only mean one thing - it's Three Tune Tuesday. It's a time of the week when lovers of music, tunes and craic bring their blockchain community three of their finest and brightest tunes to share and celebrate.
This will be my 58th week waxing lyrical for Three Tune Tuesday. It started off with me just sharing tunes into the void, but little by little others joined and now I'm thrilled that we have a little corner of Hive where we come and share our tunes every Tuesday, long may it continue. I almost stopped posting the songs and thoughts a few times, but I stuck with it and now interestingly it is my favorite thing about Hive. I love music and now I have a network of folks around the world who love music too and we share our tunes and catch up with each others tunes and discuss them each week. We get Pop, Metal, Rock, Gospel, Folk, Jazz, Rap, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, Reggae, Bippy bappidy Flange Hop. Ok I made that one up, but you get the idea, we are all learning about new artists, bands, back stories and sure isn't it just mighty!
We are adding New posters and retaining our core of regulars here on #TTT which is fantastic. Let's keep it growing and that playlist that @blackdaisyft is updating (when she gets time) will hit the 500 mark in no time. Thank you for doing that by the way daisy, when you do find time, as I like throwing on the playlist from time to time reminding myself of all of the sweet tunes that have been shared down through the months - Good on you.
Weekly, I try to find an hour or two to listen to all of the fantastic music shared from like-minded folk from around the globe. This has lead me to genres I don't know well and to some amazing new bands and artists and has even introduced me to some musical instruments I did not know existed.
I hope you enjoy the tunes - be sure to tell me all about it in the comments below and above all else, please enjoy the rest of your Tuesday - smile at a stranger, rub a dog, be a nice human to someone who was not expecting it - peace out.
For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Here are my week fifty eight recommendations for Three Tune Tuesday
** Drum roll please.....**
Sigur Rós - Glósóli
Every now and then a band or a music artist comes along that knocks my socks off and I just think to myself Wow, and then I thank the universe for the arts, for music, for humanity. The band that I am going to share with you today is such a band and I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard about them too. I'm not 100% what year it was, but I had just spent a week in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a place in Croatia called Dubrovnik. There are few places like it, an absolute feast for the senses and we were locally enough to have local friends too, who allowed us to scratch further beneath the surface. We had the holiday of a lifetime, but like all good things the holiday had to come to an end, so we boarded our flight and took to the skies.
For a reason that escapes me (late check in I think) my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I sat in different rows and I was all set to sleep for the couple of hours of the flight, but instead a guy sat down beside me and after some quick chat, we got talking about music and for the two hour flight we continued to talk about music. He was on his way back from a music festival and he had been absolutely mesmerised by the band I am about to share with you.
There will be some of you who have never heard of Sigur Rós and others again, who may not know this song or may know the song but not the video. What I would ask you to do is fully immerse yourself in the song and the video for the next 6 minutes and let you know what you think. The cresendo to finish the song is like no other, and blew me away when I first saw it, and still blows me away and makes the hairs stand up on my arms when I watch it. Pure magic.
Sigur Rós - Hoppípolla
Another song that just makes me smile, with the folks from Sigur Rós singing in their hybrid Icelandic-English language that they coined. This one is a real feel good song and makes me think of my childhood, as well as thinking about old age, when I hope to be up to mischief just as I was as a child.
In Glósóli, I believe the song really strikes a note with me, as I often dream about flying and so when the children step off the edge of the cliff and fly through the sky with smiles etched onto their little faces, I think that this reminds me of my own dreams and the way the song builds and builds and builds with the drums is just fantastic.
This song is as much about the video as anything else and the importance of childhood and old age and how really the two can be quite alike in so many ways.
Sigur Rós - Olsen Olsen
If you have made it this far let's face it many don't have an attention span beyond two minutes these days then you will be quickly coming to realisation that Sigur Rós are something very different to most any band you've ever heard. It is almost like they become the music. No running around geeing up the crowd or smashing guitars here. Just mind filling earthly tones and wholesome music that one can really connect with.
Be prepared to go down a Sigur Rós rabbit hole if they are new to you and also start pining for a trip to Iceland to see this beautiful country in all it's rugged beauty and perhaps even bump into the band, yep it's pretty small in terms of population - 376,248 to be exact.
Bonus additional song/story - Sigur Rós - Ekki múkk
I don't often go beyond my alloted three tunes, but this week I will make n exception for this wonderful piece of film making from Sigur Rós and Aidan Gillan from Ireland.
Have a look and see what you make of it - this comment from Luna on youtube captures it well and I agree with her interpretation:
My interpretation: I think the whole thing is a look into the soul of the main character. The snail symbolize "Hope"...the first glance into himself that makes him realize there's still beauty and light in him, even if it looks like a small flame...the meadow symbolize his wandering through his own self...the doubt, he's not sure who he is, why he's there & what his purpose is exactly...then when he finds the fox he sees a reflection of his own self being hurt & needy and learns that his compassion includes himself...he must not fight and hate against his pain because that means fighting and hating against himself, he must accept it in order to heal. Then when he falls asleep he finally embraces and accepts all of his parts (the hope, the doubts & the the pain) and when he wakes up the feelings are gone...and instead he sees beautiful bright stars...

Hello, how are you? I've never heard of Sigur Rós in my life, and they are really amazing. You described it perfectly well when you said they are Pure Magic.
Happy Tuesday!
Hi @coquicoin, all good this end, thanks and I hope all is well with you and yours. I'm delighted to have introduced you to Sigur Rós, their music and music videos always evoke massive emotion within me. This is another beautiful song of theirs.
Hi, there! Everything is fine :)
The song and the video are so sweet. Thank you very much for sharing :)
No problem 😊
What a pity that two of the videos I can't play from here, this music is quite organic I would say, even the sounds of nature are present, it's a quite peculiar concept, thanks for sharing your musical tastes along with these wise look at these tunes.
Yes, their is something ethereal about their sound, no doubt about it. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the songs. I have shared another video above which is beautiful - hopefully you can view it in your country.
