My Genesis Post on Hive over five years ago
First ever post
I have seen a few of these pop up on Hive over the past while, so I said why not have a look back at my own first post and see what it was like. Here is a link to it for your reading pleasure, the only issue was the post was mainly about the photos from The Hill of Tara in Ireland but unfortunately the photos don't seem to display, at least not on my browser anyway.

A grand total of $0.00 payout
Nobody expects their first post to make much, but I think most people also hope or expect it to at least make a few cent, but not for me, not a red cent! You must not have been able to believe it @blackdaisyft when you saw the success of your genesis post, which was unreal altogether, but to be fair to you it was an excellent post, one of the best first posts I've seen on here.
I did get one comment though, woop woop, at least I knew that at least one person had read it. It did not dissuade me though and I kept on going, and kept on posting.
As you can see my posts were not making any returns really at all, but I was starting to get some engagement and some followers and I remember getting very excited when my second post got some support and some comments and I was delighted. It was a Fifty Words story which you can find below and one of those who commented @felt.buzz actually runs Zapfic now every Friday which is the same idea, fifty words to tell a story. You should all give it a go some time, it's lots of fun.
@metzli is also still here on Hive and thanks to both of you for that engagement back then, which helped me to get going here on Hive and I'm still here five years later plugging away.

Lessons Learned
I think the main lesson learned over the five years I have been here and what I would say to new comers is that it is all about engagement. If you engage genuinely with people, read their posts, comment meaningfully, then you will flourish here. So many come here and post, post, post and become disillusioned that they don't get upvoted or engaged with.
They need to remember that engagement is a two way street and that it takes time to build up a rapport with people. It does seem to be much easier to build up an account these days though, with communities and no more bid bots like the old days, they were terrible things, and it's so great that they are gone and that the big accounts actually reward good content now rather than payments.
Well that's it from me now, I had seen quite a few of these genesis posts, so I said I'd add my own to the mix for the craic. It's been quite the journey to get to where I am now and a big thank you to those who have helped me to get here and who continue to help me to build towards my next milestone.
!LUV
aww, thank you.
Glad we are both still here :)
@ablaze, @metzli(2/5) sent you LUV. | tools | discord | community | HiveWiki | NFT | <>< daily
Yep great that we are both still plugging away and growing.
So that is what is meant byGenesis post!
@metzli is cool and very friendly in leofinance.
The struggle is real.
Hive is great and is many things for many people. Engagement is tough, if you engage too much you have no energy to write a post is what I often find.
Be social first is my approach!
Glad you stayed, cuz you know ttt all that jazz!
Ya that's a great point alright. I love hive but sometimes it can feel like a second job when I take too much on or when we have a huge number doing #ttt but then it is balanced out because #ttt makes me really proud as something I built up from scratch.
Nice one me auld brother from another mother! Sound skin so ya are.
I tried to flag it but hive wouldn't let me. Sad.
I had actually upvoted your shared post five years ago but my vote wasn't worth jack shit back then. Amazing what five years can do and the ability to drop a few cents on you now.
Did you just scroll back all the way or how did you find your first posts?
Ya, it was a serious scroll fest to get back to it!! Ha ha. There is probably an easier way, but I used the crude method!
Definitely and very much appreciated, same my side, nice to have a few bob to help people that were like me way back then.
Oh hell yes. I got one vote my very first time. Well, and one from my wife, too, but really just one for a grand total of $0.00.
Dude the first comment I ever made earned more than my first post.
Ya man, the start is definitely tough and why a good few give up early days. Great to hear from you, hope all is well your side.
Any better would be illegal if that counts.
Nice one brother!! Not too bad here either... On my holidays...
That virtual pressure against your mug was me. Cheers.
Engagement really is the key. I was a nutter for engagement when I started and It was still la struggle but I think it paid off in the end
You're still mighty for the engagement, so must have been next level shit back in the day. Your content snd style is very original and always one of my favorites to read.
Oh wow!!! Congratulations @ablaze 😁😁 5 years is a long road for sure!!
I'm so grateful to have meet you when I came to Hive 🙏🙏 I always learn from you and now I've learned this new concept about Genesis hehehe good stuff!!
Actually on my first post my expectation was to get zero rewards although I hoped that someone would read it at least ahahah it was a surprise so big I still have a hard time believing it to this day 🤣🤣 Thank you for your recognition 🤩❤️
I do agree with you! It's all about engagement and making friends 😁 it's a whole new world here!
Happy for you and for all your success, you deserve it and more! 😊🤗
Ya 5 years! Pretty nuts eh! Where are the years going??
Amen to that, so many cool like-minded folks here. I hope all is good with you in Portugal. I'm on the Iberian peninsula now too! On holidays in South of Spain 👌
Oh nice!! We are closer yeah 😁😁🙌 I hope you are enjoying a nice vacations with a good paella and beers to boost heheh
Have you ever been to Spain or Portugal before?
I've been to Portugal twice and Spain loads of times, usually at least once per year. I love Spain and feel very st home here. We are lucky to have access to a beautiful apartment 40min drive from Malaga Airport.
Oh right right, I think you've told me before about your visits in Portugal, I didn't remember at the time 😅😅
So glad you are having a good time and hopefully some rest too 🤗🤗 have fun and talk soon! 😘
It was great, but I can't say I'm rested to be honest, as you're never really rested when you have young children!! It's par for the course! 😃
Hehehe although I have not yet experienced that I fully believe you as I often get reality checks from my patient's experiences in motherhood heheh! 😂😂 Oh well, part of the miracle of life 😍
I do hope that, the very least, you created wonderful and lovely memories with your beautiful family 🤗
It was tough for newbies starting out back in those days we had to work our way around by ourselves, and could end up sink or swim. Those who stayed afloat appreciate things a lot more, I think. Nowadays newbies get a lot more support and some take things for granted....
Ya I think effort and dedication is rewarded quicker now for sure. Starting out five years ago was tough, but we are all the stronger for it too I suppose.
It would be too much scrolling down to get back to my very first post here on the chain but as far as I remember, it was a post with some pictures of beaches in Mexico where we lived back then in 2017. I had no clue what I was doing on here as I never heard of crypto and blockchain before but I think that post still made a few cents :)
Ya I had a lot of scrolling to do, so you'd have even more, but good on you for remembering what the post was about. Some memory 👌
Heh, my memory is actually weird. I remember a lot of unimportant things while I totally forget a lot of important ones :D :/
I hear you, I'm a bit that way myself, like I'll remember specific things from Geography class twenty five years ago, but forget an important birthday!
Beautiful pictures 😍
