The Marine Champion

“How come she sang my song? But she came from a faraway place. How come she knew everything and even used the same voice as mine?” I soliloquize.

I'm from a different world with different thoughts from others. So many people called me “the marine champion.”. I don't understand why the name, but all I knew was that the marine world sings to the best tone and the best song. They never relent when it comes to music.

My mom once told me, “I gave birth to you when I went to the sea to watch a baby mermaid lay beside the sea bank. After watching it, I discovered that the mermaid gave me an in-depth look that turned my stomach. The look was extraordinary, and I was the only one who saw that. I did not for once disclose it to anyone apart from your dad. Immediately, my stomach started painting me, but it did not take me up to five minutes to give birth to you. Immediately after you were born, the baby mermaid swam away with only me noticing and with a deep voice heard by me and me alone, “Lucia.” Your look was just like that of the mermaid. However, you stayed in my belly for eleven months, which people called an abnormal time. I later named you Lucia".

This was the reason I once said I'm from a different world, a world filled with music. I can dance and sing to any kind of music.

I started singing when I was four years of age. So many people passing by would stop and listen to the brilliant song, while some would dance to my songs. I was not the shy type, but someone who had the mind to showcase my views at all costs.

“This I can call a gift," Mr. Ado said.

“There is a competition that I would like you to participate in. Will you have any interest?” He continued.

“I need to tell my mom and relate that to the Almighty if I am permitted," I replied.

“I will be waiting for your feedback," Mr. Ado answers.

I told my mom about it, and she asked me to go ahead. I was not satisfied with her answer, so I decided to meditate just to inquire from my almighty if I might be allowed to proceed with the competition.

“I hear a voice that filtered into my ears. “Go ahead, but you may meet a barrier. Don't panic. Just make sure you have a plan B, and then you will come out victorious.“. That was the voice of my Almighty.

I went to Mr. Ado's house and agreed to go to the competition. “That's good of you. This competition will bring you and your family good fortune, and I have the belief that you are going to win it," Mr. Ado said with all gladness.

He helped me to register. On the instruction paper, a prompt word was given. This prompt word must be our keyword in whatever we are singing. I had to practice different songs related to the same prompt word. I knew all the songs I had practiced were so perfect. Likewise, I went straight to meet with Mr. Ado. Not only that, but I sang just one song to him that got him carried away. “You are perfect, and with this song, you are good to go," he said.

The D-Day came, and Mr. Ado had to accompany me down to the arena. All the contestants gathered, as well as the judges. They called the first person on the list. We were ten, and our names were arranged according to the way we bought the form. I was the last on the list, and the one I was next to looked unique according to the way I observed her. The contestants gathered in line, and the first person was called. Her song looked brilliant and well organized, except for the voice she used.

The next contestant came in and dusted the first contestant 100%. The next followed, and it got to the one I was next to (second to the last). She started singing, and to my surprise, she sang my song with the same voice and tone.

“What! Did Mr. Ado give her my song, or was she peeping on me when I was singing?” I tried to ask myself confused. Meanwhile, while contemplating, she finished singing, and the crowd yelled and clapped for her. The echo of their calls knew no bounds.

Mr. Ado drifted close to me and asked, “What will you sing now since this girl has sung what you have prepared for?”

I got confused again, as my thought that Mr. Ado had given my song to this girl was untrue. “I will try a plan B," I told Mr. Ado.

I ascended the stage and started my song. As I started singing, everyone and everywhere was quiet. The contestants and the judges were carried away by what I didn't know. They raised their heads and placed their hands on their cheeks as they were busy listening.

When I was done, I discovered that everyone was still pondering and in deep thought. The latter dropped their thoughts, and immediately the whole crowd gave me a heavy hand of applause. The contestants were not exceptional.

The judges put their heads together and came to the stage as they announced the results. They called out the person who took the third position. They called the one I was next to in the second position while the crowd yelled at my name, Lucia, Lucia, Lucia. Likewise, they already knew that I was going to take the first position. Then the judges announced, “The one with the best song is nobody other than…” Before one of the judges could announce my name, the crowd yelled once again, “Lucia, Lucia, Lucia. Then my name was called.

“How did you do it?” Mr. Ado asked

“You know I am the best singer and have never stopped singing. It's my food and what I was known for," said Mr. Ado.

I was given a considerable sum of money. My mom embraced me and gave Mr. Ado a share of the money. I went into deep thought again and thanked the Almighty. A voice came in and said, “That girl is your sister; I'm spirit. You came from the same world.”.

It's great to feel when one can overcome troublesome situations due to one's gifts. I think it's something that has no price.
