Success Through Rest
I found out some time ago that when you have a good sense of humor, you can get through anything in life. Not having one was the headache that kept aching, but finding one relieved me of all my worries.
Navigating through some obstacles in life gave me some unsaving grace to overcome some challenges through stress. Going through these challenges made me feel some uncalled instances that led to what I termed health issues.
I have always been busy for some time now, and this kept me tired. I never wanted to talk about it, even when my husband asked. I always tried to give one excuse for being worried about something else, undermining the deep weight of stress I felt within me. It was just as if I were keeping secrets or hiding something I was not ready to disclose to anyone. Going to the market to carry loads of rice on my head, after which I had to carry loads of cassava flakes and some other heavy items, kept me heavy and tired, and I never wanted to smile at anyone. I felt a headache deep inside of me as the head would sound just as if someone were pounding yam in it.
My husband tried to guess my immediate situation, but one way I tried to dodge the fact was by not telling my husband. One fateful evening, he called me and said, “Honey! I know the stress you are going through in the market is so alarming. You don't need to do it alone, as I'm here to help you since I am on break now. You need to relax, as the body is not a firewood." This time, I cannot hide it any longer. I had to tell him what I was going through. My husband is an understanding fellow. He just wants to make me feel happy and weightless. So, he decided to go to the market four days later, as that was market day. He made me sleep, forgetting there was a market. Unlike before, he would have woken me up, but this time he left me to enjoy my sleep and went straight to the market without letting me know.
I only woke up when I heard a knock on the door. I checked the time, and behold, it was 11:30 a.m. This was when I remembered it was market day. I rushed to the doorstep and opened the door. I saw my husband exhausted. “Where are you coming from?” I asked.
“I took your phone since I knew the password to it and helped you out in the market," he said in an exhausting mood.
“What! How did you know what I wanted to buy, and where did you see the money to pay for those goods you bought?”
“You wrote it on paper, and so I made sure not to wake you up, and I also know the password to your bank app. I made a transfer to those I bought goods from," he said.
It sounds so funny, but it was a stress reliever. This was when I gave him a sweet hug. I thanked him so much, but then he felt what I had been feeling. I gave him a cup of water and asked him to go to the bathroom to drench some cold water on his body.
After some time, I later realized that I was strong and balanced, unlike before. The headache and the tiredness have disappeared. It was so surprising that my body was back to normal. All thanks to my husband for not waking me up, and a bigger thanks to him for helping me out in the market.
I told him it was his turn to relax.
He climbed the bed after taking his bath and zoomed off into sleep while going straight to the kitchen to prepare him some food. I allowed him to have some rest and ensured that he would wake up by himself. He only walked straight to the dining room to get his food.
This was a nice one, and a better one than I have learned from my husband. Rest is the better part of life. Now I was able to do all things and fall back to resting, unlike before, when I would never rest. I never allowed stress to tie me down; instead, I chose to rest after stressing the body.
Difficult times like this is why we need a good partner that can understand us even when we aren’t ready to talk. A good partner is everything
“You wrote it on paper, and so I made sure not to wake you up, and I also know the password to your bank app. I made a transfer to those I bought goods from," he said
This here for me speaks volume about respect and maintaining some sort of space in certain times. I love the fact that she was allowed to sleep. Sometimes, all our body needs is just that one powerful good sleep and we are back to a normalcy.
Great story by the way.
Thank you so much for this story, @abigail04. A little rest improves the mood and makes life more bearable.
