Counterproductive Crisis
“Please can you pass me the cup of coffee?” Mark asked with his face ready to sip some coffee, as it is what he so cherished most in his life. His attendant, without wasting time, rushed to Mark's table with a steady movement. She took the coffee and handed it to him.
“Thanks, Miss Maureen,” he replied with a smile on his face.
“You are welcome,” Miss Maureen replied.
“I just hope this works out,” Mark said as he was working on a task he had been dreaming of making. His boss had given him the task, anyway, but he had been longing to make it happen. His task was to search for means of going to the future as well as the past just to know what would and would not happen. He started his search. He was so optimistic about making his way out. He searched through Google just to start up with the creation but came up with just a little idea different from what he had in mind. He tried all means to get the solution to his findings, but all his efforts were in vain.
He visited different scientists' records just to know how to come up with the best machine that could read the future as well as the past, but then he was not clear about what they were all saying. Mark decided to beckon his colleague at work to pass him the coffee as he was busy thinking of what to do. “Thanks,” he said as he took the cup of coffee from John. “You are welcome,” John replied.
“Do you know what I loved most in life?” Mark asked.
“We all have something we most prefer in life. What’s that thing you loved most?” John asked.
“coffee. It gives me the greatest joy to think very fast,” Mark said.
“Wow! You are right; what you love can truly give you joy to think and act very fast.” As they were discussing, an idea ran over Mark, and he immediately cut off their conversation and focused on his idea. He began to couple some items just to make his time travel machine a reality. He ran that thing that came to his mind and saw that his time travel machine was somehow working, but not to his expectation. Deep in his mind was a smile and happiness, showing a sign of progression towards what he had to make.
“I’m getting closer,” he said to John, who was sitting next to him. John, on the other hand, has been observing whatever he has been doing but has no idea how to go about it. “That’s great,” John responded.
Mark tried to set up his findings and came up with the best solution. He placed a password that only he knew on the machine. “I think I have made it. Oh yes…I have made it…!”, Mark said out of excitement. “John, can you please come? I want to test my machine”, mark said. Mark out how to go about it and how he would switch it on and turn the knob until it takes someone to the future. He also told him how to turn the knob until it takes someone to the past. He entered the machine and John scrolled to the position where he had to take Mark to the future. He turned the knob and immediately, he was transferred to the future. He saw himself as a great man and he saw his future. He had forgotten to tell John about the password. The only way to come back from the future is to insert the password. Mark became lost right in the future as John could not find a solution to bring him back from the future. He tried all he could but had no idea. He had limited time left before the machine transformed Mark into a beast. He tried all the passwords he had known but came up with nothing. Time was not by his side. He immediately picked up his phone and called his boss to come over urgently. “what’s the problem?” mr Cage asked.
“Mark had told me to set the machine he had created to view the future just as you had instructed him, which I did. He entered, and I transported him to the future. He failed to tell me the password to bring him back from the future, and in the next 25 minutes, he would change totally into a beast,” John said.
“What? And he did not inform me before doing this?” Mr. Cage asked angrily. They both tried all they could but came up with no solution; anything that made them pull Mark from the machine would render the machine useless, as well as Mark becoming a beast, and when the time elapsed without finding a solution to it, Mark would also change to a beast without reversal.
There are just 3 minutes remaining. They had tried their best and finally gave up. “Whatever the outcome will be, Mark has to bear it,” Mr. Cage said angrily.
Just a minute to go, John stretched his hands, feeling tired, and immediately hit his hand on the cup of coffee on the table. Something sent a message to his brain that Mark would have used the word coffee as his password since it is what he loved most. It was left with twenty seconds, and John immediately rushed and typed “coffee,” all in lowercase. This was when he heard, ”Welcome back from the future”. There was a relief, and immediately, his boss, Mr. Cage, angrily spoke words to Mark, although he was also happy that Mark had found a lasting solution to their problem.
I loved reading your sci-fi story which is one of my favorite styles. It was very fun and exciting. The key thing was very original.
