A Road To My Heart

(Edited)

"I have found my heart and the one dear to me." Ken was so excited when he got home from his trip.
Ken has been looking for so many ways and excuses just for him to travel to the village to meet her grandma. One thing leading to the other, he got hooked up by too many tasks at his work. He was not able to meet up with his trip. Anytime he puts up a proposal to travel to his village to see his grandma, one thing would come up that would make his boss reject his proposal even at the time not expected.

"Hello Grandma, I have missed you a lot and I hope to see you soon", Ken was so happy speaking to his grandma but unhappy for not granted the opportunity to travel just to see his grandma.
"The other time you said you were coming, I had prepared your best soup that always touches your soul. That delicious soup got wasted as I hardly ate it." Grandma was somehow angry at Ken.
"I'm sorry, Grandma; I will make it up to you as soon as possible. Hope you did not waste a lot of money to prepare the soup." Ken asked.
"Well, it was not wasted anyway. I gave it to Caroline, a girl that helps me out at home," Grandma said.
"Alright, Grandma, it's good to hear from you again. Just expect me soon", Ken said, but somehow left with a little smile for hearing from his grandma, a woman that acted like both man and woman in his life after losing his parents to a car accident.

"Let me send in another letter of permission of leave to my boss and see if it would be approved," Ken said.
He tried to pen down a few lies just for his letter to get approved, but after fabricating lies, his boss returned his letter to him saying, "Your letter will not be approved, and at this moment that we have too much work at hand, e.g., if you have to choose between your job and traveling," Ken had to think of those words deeply as he was not ready to lose his job.

A week later, his boss called his colleague, saying, "Get prepared to leave for research in Ogita village.". It's a village just a stone's throw from Ken's village.
"My boss does not even consider me before giving me this task. Why will he ask me to go to the Ogita village at this moment?" Pet, Ken's colleague, soliloquizes when he is coming from his boss's office.
"What did you just say?" Ken asked after hearing a faded name from Pet.
"Our boss said I should go to Ogita village for research," he said.
"Did you object it?" Ken asked.
"I don't want to go", Pet said
"I will tell him to send me there then," Ken said.
"Why, pet? Asked in anticipation.
"It's close to my village, and so I will use that opportunity to reach my grandma. I have missed his soul," Ken replied.
"Icy," Pet replied.
His boss later grants him the opportunity to go for the research. He was so happy and so excited.

Cats Coming

The next day, he got to his hometown first and had the mind of settling for two days before going for the research. "Grandma, I'm home.", Her grandma was so excited to see Ken. She immediately called Caroline to help her serve the dish she had made.

"Granny, this is your handiwork, just with the same taste as before," Ken said while licking his fingers one after the other.
"You should trust your grandma", Grandma replied

The next day, Caroline decided to prepare the same kind of soup while Ken had taken another decision to go for the research, but will be coming home daily until he's done with the research.

That evening, when he got home, he was served the soup, coupled with prepared cassava flakes. He had been taking it ordinarily without thinking of trying it with anything else. Immediately, he saw the food on the table, and he decided to eat the soup, leaving the maker with cassava flakes. Caroline came in to pack out the plates Ken had used to eat and saw the plate of soup empty, but the naked cassava flakes were still intact and untouched. She was shocked but then walked to Ken.
"Sir, you did not touch the made cassava flakes",
"It's because I only love taking the soup alone," Ken said.
"Why can't you just try it for once?" Caroline said.
"Please, don't disturb my peace," Ken shouted as Caroline felt embarrassed.

"Please, can you take his soup and the made cassava flakes to him?" Grandma just wanted Caroline and Ken to cling together. She has not read to say it herself but wanted to use wisdom.
"I don't think he would accept it, Grandma," Caroline said, giving out a tidy look with a beautiful face.
"Why did you say that?"
"The last time I wanted to force him to eat it, he shouted at me profusely," Caroline replied.
"Just try it this time and see his reaction," grandma said.
Caroline took his soup and the maked cassava flakes to his table while he was still taking his bath. She immediately left just to avoid taking another face of embarrassment.

Ten minutes later, Caroline heard her name as Ken raised his voice so hard.
"I was not ready to serve him the cassava flakes the other time, but grandma forced me to," she soliloquized with a fear that gripped her heart. It was just as if the ground should open and swallow her up.
"Who prepared the soup?" He asked in a commanding tone, somehow giving her a fine look. Caroline gazed at the plates on the table and found out that they were empty. She was shocked and at a loss for words. In another way, she was happy that he ate the cassava flakes.

"I prepared it, sir," Caroline replied.
"It's delicious," he said.
“Thanks, Sir. " Caroline was surprised by the compliment.
“Grandma, I think I have found my wife, but I just need to study her for some time before voicing it out to her.” Grandma smiled as she understood him clearly.
“Who should that be?” she asked as Ken smiled, looking at the doorside just in case she was not hearing what they were discussing.
"Caroline," he voiced out.

They say that to reach a man's heart there is no better way than through the stomach. Some soups awaken love. Greetings
