The African Breakfast Clubs: Where Do You Fall?

avatar

At this point, I can confidently say there’s a rivalry between Africans especially Ghanaians and breakfast. There’s a popular morning question people ask the moment you say you’re going to have breakfast. Ei this early morning? And when you tell them you’re having milo and bread, Oh but you’re just going to drink water, you’ll get hungry again, eat proper food, I can go on and on.Infact sometimes the moment you talk about breakfast they start calling you rich kid or daddy’s girl.

Growing up, I really didnt like food. Before agreeing to eat you had to promise me chocolate or ice cream. My mom would force me to take breakfast and when I’m late for school she would package it but I always brought it back home. Years later, I realized it wasn’t that I hated breakfast, it was the food. Beverages and cereals gave me stomach upset in the morning and made me very sleepy in class. If you ask me how I won’t be able to answer. I then realized I wasn’t even the only one.

Let’s start with the group of people who actually take heavy foods for breakfast in the name of their food formation (1-0-1). Most of these people eat beans and plantain, banku, waakye at 6, 7 , 8am just to get them sustained till evening comes. These are the Club X members.

We have people who remember to eat breakfast only when it’s 11 to 12am. They eat Waakye(Rice and Beans), rice and stew or even kenkey(Maize dumplings). They say it’s called brunch. Those are the club A members.

There are also people who would wait till it’s afternoon before breaking their fast in the name of their food formation(0-1-1). Those people would normally eat fufu, kenkey or anything that can sustain them till late evening. These are the club B members.

We also have those that actually don’t miss breakfast for anything. They also normally take the light breakfast we know of, either cereals or beverages with proteins and carbohydrates(let’s say oats with bread and egg). Those are the exquisite club O members.

There are also the “Oh I haven’t eaten today” people and those that are always reminded to eat by the screams of their stomachs. These are normally the busy bees. I used to be part of this club until I got admitted at the hospital. If you are part of this club(Club C) advise yourself.

I am currently part of the club X. I realized cereals and beverages for breakfast were not my thing. The surprising part is we know the heavy foods especially containing too much carbs make us sleepy right? It’s actually the opposite for me. I feel very dull and sleepy in the morning when I take milo and bread than when I eat my morning Waakye.(I know you’re surprised)
It was really fun making this write up and thank you for your time.
So now, which club are you and which club did I miss?

I would say I belong to club O, but then I like eating heavy food in the morning.

Your body system is a unique one.

I belong to club A. I don't always have enough appetite to eat early 8b the morning until around 11am or 12noon.

Club A😌. I would eat gob3 around 11. So I only have to think about food in the evening.

At a point too, I was in the club C, and it took me to the hospital as well. Still takes me there

Eating banku as early as 6 am is wild 😂 The second picture with the bread and eggs, is the other thing oat? Anyway, as for my club, it looks like you missed it (1-1-1). I have breakfast around 10 or 11 am, lunch around 2 or 3 pm and dinner around 8 pm. My breakfast usually consists of light foods like bread and tea, custard, and cereals. But in school, I practice 1-0-1 (I never joke with breakfast and dinner 😁)
