Lies and Lies and Lies

Have you ever met a pathological chronic liar? If you responded with no then you should give offering twice at church on Sunday because you have no idea what God has done for you. There are people who can lie so much that you literally just…just ..gosh! I used to check out for a whole heap of red flags but after meeting one of those species, I just decided to tailor it to just one; lies.

I know nobody is perfect and we’re all flawed one way or the other. You can be whatever you want but please don’t be a liar, whether as a friend or a partner. I hate lies. I never understand why people just lie. We’re all adults. I won’t beat you if you tell me the truth. So why lie?

Some years ago, I used to have this particular friend whose boyfriend used to go on a lot of trips. She was adventurous as myself so I wondered why she never went with him. She told me they were business trips. Before I continue, let me just add that they were at the peak of their relationship. They both knew each other’s parents and the guy was preparing to even propose marriage to my friend.

There was this particular day that my friend came to me very heartbroken. She found out that her boyfriend had a baby mama and a 4 year old kid and those trips were to check up on his kid. I consoled my friend and adviced her to confront him. Normally, I would just mind my business but he was also my very good friend and I really wanted the information to be false. We prepared to confront him with enough pictures and screenshots.

Guess what guys? He denied everything! She asked him why he didn’t tell her those trips were to go check up on his kid. He said the kid was his niece. I showed him pictures and he said pictures meant nothing. We even found out that he was only being responsible because the court asked him to so I showed him the court papers as well. He denied everything.

At a point he even tried calling his “brother” to confirm his lies. I was so angry because what? You really think we’re that dumb? I asked him to get out of my house and that was when he realized we weren’t buying any of that. He began a whole speech by saying he was shy and then he said he wasn’t sure the child was his and then he kept on lying and lying.

I was just shocked that a human being could lie like that. After ten thousand lies, he finally admitted and then begged me to apologize on his behalf. I was so sad for my friend and she just couldn’t stop crying. I made her realize how the incident was a blessing in disguise. It was way better that she found out early because it would have been very embarrassing to have their wedding cancelled later.

Well, as I always say, I will allow people to keep on lying till I get that gun because when I finally do, no lies will go past it.
