Let’s Crochet Scrunchies For My Neighbor’s Daughter

Hello everyone, I want to share these scrunchies I made for neighbor’s daughter. She’s about 7 years old and according to her mom, she’s been crying on her for a while to get her scrunchies for church because her friends at church have some in their hair. Her mom actually asked my mom to ask me where she was going to get scrunchies since I am Gen Z because she doesn’t even know how she’ll get scrunchies for Ella.(her daughter)

I told her to give me some hours to ask my friends. I knew very well I wasn’t going to ask any friend because I was going make it for her. I didn’t think twice because it reminded me of how my mom never got me such things no matter how I cried her a river.
I had a lot of left over yarns so yarn wasn’t a problem. I spent about 2 hours on each scrunchie because of how bulky I wanted the ruffle in the scrunchies to be.

The materials I used were;
• Leftover yarns
• 1.60mm crochet hook
• Rubber bands

Procedure
I started by wrapping the rubber bands with yarn. I did that by making single crochet around the rubber. More like I made single crochet with the rubber bands inside. I did it will it covered the rubber band completely.

I wanted it to come out really big and large and very different from what other people have. You already know me, I either go hard or go home and this I made to go very hard so that Ella will be happy. I chained three and then made three double crochet in each stitch to I got to the end of the band. I also made sure to work loosely so that the ruffles won’t to be too stiff.

After that, I went around the band again with another three double crochet in the same stitch till I reached the last stitch. That gave me the really bulky ruffle effect that I wanted. I was happy because I had gone harder than I thought so meaning no going home and most importantly Ella was going to be happy.

I didn’t plan on adding a different color but just for the ruffle to pop out and be easily noticed, I sealed the ends of the ruffles with a different color to give it that popping effect I wanted.

Her mom was so happy when she came back to meet me with the scrunchies. She realized I did it myself because she saw the yarn pieces all over. She came to meet me trying to take pictures of the scrunchies and just accepted to be my model. I was so surprised just scrunchies could make someone this happy. I guess it’s more about her daughter.

Well, the excitement made me feel fulfilled though. Now, she’s asked me to make one for her and I’m glad I get to make her happy the second time. Thank you for your time.
