Let’s Crochet A Mini Decorative Basket

Hello everyone, it’s been about 4 days without internet in Ghana. They just made a quick fix yesterday and we hope it lasts longer. I’ve been so sad not to be able to come here and see the amazing works of needleworkers. I’m happy I can at least access the blockchain now.
We’re still continuing our project “making use of our leftover yarns”. If you are new here, this project is aimed at ensuring zero waste, meaning at the end if this project, you would have used all your leftover yarns for really cute projects.

Today’s project was inspired by my sister. She went to the mall yesterday and bought me so many sweets. When she came back they were tied in a plastic bag. I just drew my inspiration from it to make a cute basket for little things.
It could be for coins, pins, anything little. It also makes your space aesthetically pleasing. I used about an hour for this basket.

The materials I used were:
• Leftover yarn
• 1.60mm hook

Procedure

I started by making the base of the basket using the light peach yarn. I made a magic ring, chained two, then made 12 double crochets into the ring and slip stitched into the first double crochet I made. I now made two double crochet in each stitch for another circular row and then the next circle row was made of 1 double crochet and double crochet increase in the next stitch.

For the body of the basket, I worked in the back loop, making 3 rows of double crochets. Again, you can keep on crocheting till you get the length of your choice.

For the design, I made 4 double crochets, skipped two chains and made another 4 double crochets. I repeated this till the end of the row.
I now made a slip stitch in between the second and third double crochet and then made 8 double crochets into the space I had made with the 4 chains. I repeated this till I was done with the row.
I then attached the burgundy yarn and single crochet around the design.

I wanted to make a bottom edge to make it easy for it to stand so I attached the burgundy yarn at the bottom and made a single crochet, one chain till I ended.

For the handle which is optional, I made 45 chains and then single crocheted till the end. I now decided to crochet around it to see how it was going to look like instead of the regular way which is turn over and continue working.
After two rows, I changed the yarn to the burgundy.

I then attached the handle to the basket using a hook and a slip stitch. Ideally, it’s better to use a needle but if you dont have a needle slip stitches work fine as well.

I was done with the basket, poured the sweets and showed my sister.

I really enjoyed making this, I hope you like it and it feels good to have internet now.

The blackout is something I totally doubt I'd be able to cope with especially at this time 😣.

I'm very sure other needleworkers I've missed you too 🤭.

This is really creative of you dear, I love the design on the edge, it gave it the basket vibes, hehe. Please share some sweet with me especially the bounty 😋

Very nice this little basket, we could say that the inspiration came just for that leftover thread to be transformed into this project. Now you have an excuse to buy more candy 😅.
