Hunger: It Never Really Ends

Watching this movie made me realize two things. The poor are hungry for food everyday and the rich are also equally hungry everyday but they are not exactly after food. They hunger for more success, bigger bags. So whether poor or rich, everyone is hungry for something and that hunger never ends.

Before you get confused, let me just say this movie is actually about food. Don’t mind my extensive analysis up there. Hunger is 2023 movie about a young lady, Aoy, who was running her family’s local noodles restaurant with her great cooking skills and wanted to become a special chef someday. First 30 minutes into the movie, I got bored but I was alert because of the sounds, the kitchen environment, sharp objects and all.

They actually did a great job with the cinematography. They captured all the cooking details. From the fire to the chopping to the cleaning, every detail was captured. I like the fact that they tried their best to stick to the cooking part to bring out a lot of cooking scenes. This is the best movie for anyone who does cooking contents because you’ll learn a lot.

The number one thing I liked in the movie was their dialogues. Who ever wrote the lines for the movie is very intelligent. I thought since the movie was about food, I was going to hear food here and there everywhere but guess what? There were deeper conversations than that. Imagine Aoy, on her way to become special realizing that being special comes at a price. That price is losing a lot of important things. Worse of it all, she’ll never get satisfied after becoming special.

It resonated with me in so many ways. Sometimes we want something but then we lose things, very important things to get that thing. And it’s sad that we don’t weigh to see if what we want is important than what we’re losing. This is something I picked from one of the dialogues and that’s why I’m giving credit to the writer.

Now, I found so many loopholes in this movie to the extent that I began asking the characters “is that all you can do?”. I don’t know if the producer wanted us to read the minds of the actors because they were so many “unsaid” emotions in display with no explanation of why the actors did what they did. The main character was too timid.

Well, maybe it’s just me but imagine you’re a lead character, hungry for success, then go watch the movie and come tell me if that’s how you’ll behave. I’m a huge fan of acting. I believe no matter the story line of a movie, if the actors aren’t great then nothing good will come out of it. There was a lot of zoning out in the movie and I kept on wondering if the characters forgot their lines or what.

Also, there were a lot of unnecessary scenes in the movie. Some scenes were repeated about 4 times and I was now so confused. The theme for the climax of the movie was so dramatically uncalled for. I kept on bowing my head head in disappointment throughout that part. Oh and those flashy scenes…gosh! Please stay away from that part if you’re photosensitive like me.

I’m not a cooking person but I ended up being blown away by their cooking methods and presentation of dishes. But that’s not even why I watched the movie after seeing the trailer. I wanted to know if Aoy really became a special Chef and what exactly she had to do or lose to become that special chef. This movie has great life lessons and for that, I will give it a 6.43/10.

It is like you carried calculator for your review. Lmao. 6.43? Interesting!

I don't even remember much of the film, but I know I generally like the film. It was the cinematography I enjoyed the most. That, I remember.

There was a lot of zoning out in the movie and I kept on wondering if the characters forgot their lines or what.
