The Risk of Being a Sportsman

I am not a sports person as much, but there are times when I get interested in watching sports. I love championship sports, where players battle their way to the top and win.

I don't know if I should call it a sport, but I had a lot of interest in wrestling. If wrestling should be counted as a sport, then I might have said it's my favorite and best sport. But since I learned about it scripted, it made me lose some more interest in the competitive aspect of it. But I just watch it for the fun of it.

When the wrestlers go against each other, the way they launch attacks on their opponents, the way to practice their skills, and many more are just a part of why I really love watching it. It is sometimes so brutal to watch and some are just so funny. But the brutality of it is at the expense of the wrestlers.

There are times when some wrestlers have their arms, neck, and some other parts of their body broken, but that won't stop them from coming up on the ring to fight again. I guess it must have been about interest and the love they had for it to the extent that they tended to overlook the danger and damages they would get from it and rather focus on the passion they have for it.

Apart from sports I even think most of the other things we engage ourselves with come with their own risk. But yet we still get to do them out of love and passion, at times for the money we get from it. Transportation, bricklaying, and other occupations have their risks and dangers too. But just that when it comes to sports it is something everyone watches for fun but the damage the players encounter might be way beyond fun.

Though no one is ready to watch a bricklayer at work. But billions of people are ready to watch Mike Tyson fight. No benefit comes from two people fighting. But either way, people tend to have fun watching them hit each other and injure each other. Just like watching chickens fight each other.

So as a replacement for the danger they encounter and the huge crowds they pull, there is always a high payout for them. They get a lot of money from a single fight. And from which they can get to care for their injured body. If it were to be that they don't earn that much money then I am sure they will end their careers even after one fight and not be able to compete any further.

For example, football, is one of the favorite sports people watch for fun and to have a nice time watching the leagues and competitions that come from it. The footballers aren’t finding it easy playing as much as viewers are enjoying them. But when you hear about their pay on a weekly basis you would have your mouth wide open.

They get some people's salary for five years in just weeks. But the more they earn the higher they spend on maintaining their health and physical appearance. So that's just the sacrifice they had to pay for the kind of sport they engaged in.

This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 140 Edition 1 and the topic to be discussed is CONTACT SPORT

Most of these athletes start out as kids wanting to play their whole life. Eventually, when they end up becoming senior professional players, two things come to them. The risk and the money. As they say I risk high reward. But I believe most athletes are very well trained and they maintain a healthy diet and exercise so that their body is far more better built than most of us. They can sustain heavier loads so they can keep on entertaining us without getting injured.

Till today, I’m still trying to understand football and how football fans are so attached to it.😂

But you know these footballers make a lot of money, so it’s worth the risk I guess.
