Salary equals slavery
Good day to you all.

There are times when I say to myself that I would never be poor. It was way easier said than done but nevertheless, I knew it won’t come so easy. Just because I already read biographies of great people in life and how they come about their greatness. It wasn’t a day journey but a journey that’s rough and smooth.
One of my tutors once told us “Salary equals slavery” I never understood him better because I got to see a lot of people out there living fine and earning their income as they survive through salary.
But after a few explanations from him I also get to understand better the fact that salary equals slavery.
The very day I received my first salary as a teacher, even before I got admitted into the university I never liked my way of life based on salary. Though the money might be too small then to cater for my needs but at that stage and my qualification, getting a job that will pay me better wasn’t an option then. I believe the salary rate is always on the increase the more your qualifications.
I started to rely on this so-called salary even before the end of the month. I would have made plans for how I am going to spend the money. Many times I even go into debt with the assurance that something is going to show up at the end of the month. I became so dependent on that money.
Fast forward to my youth service corps. We started receiving another salary from the federal government. It really did well to help us out and solved some of our expenses then but I realized that there was a lot more to the problem the allowance we got could solve.
At first, I didn’t rely much on the earnings because I am working online as a blogger and also earning something too. I didn’t depend much on it but those closer to me. I knew how much they must have felt especially when the month is about to end and we never get credited our allowance. Many would run into debts ahead of the payment, some would keep on lending money in anticipation that the money would be sent. Then immediately they received the alert, paid their debts and before they realized it, the amount left could hardly cater them till the next month.
I felt we have been enslaved by that money.
Once we were done with our program the money stopped immediately and now come to tell me how we are going to survive without this money. To many people, it was like they lost everything because they never knew where to start from. The month will surely end and there is nothing to pay up their debts and even anticipate for.
All they have to do is to seek any kind of job that pays, no matter the amount, at least it should just get to fill up the gap from the former salary.
People with salary might be living a normal life and be living fine but can not be compared to being self employed. There are a lot of advantages to self employment. Time, ease, convenience, dedication and even financial freedom and independence.
The ability to be financially independent and responsible for your own decisions and business can only come from being self employed. Financial growth could be earned from being self employed. Salary earners are not bound to be financially dependent compared to self employed individuals.
In conclusion, if I were to choose between being a salary worker or being self employed. I would always prefer to be self employed than entangling myself and my life with some sort of salary amount at the end of each month.
