RAMADAN DAY 1
The Gregorian calendar has its count to be day and then night. But in the Hijri calendar, we have got to be night and then day. This means that on the Gregorian calendar, we have the day come into existence and then the night surfaces and this is because the calendar is based on the sun. But for the Hijrah, the night comes first before the day. And this is because the calendar is based on the moon. Once the moon is out a new day begins.
So as for yesterday, it happened that our long-awaited holy month of Ramadan was upon us. We had to welcome it with all our hearts. You can feel the love and emotions everywhere. The heart of every Muslim remains steadfast in preparation for the month. We were fortunate to witness it last year. No one was assured they would be a witness to this year’s. So we keep praying and have our hopes high.
On my end, I woke up to a very serious body pain. The stress I had from Saturday was out of it. I was so stressed and this was because I had a lot of work to attend to on the farm that day. I washed all of the ponds and the fries I have been raising for weeks now would be ready for sorting according to their sizes. All of these are what I did on Saturday which made me have a lot of pain.
So when I woke up yesterday, I had to prepare a meal so I could have breakfast. I knew this would be the last time I would have breakfast during the daytime or lunch until Ramadan was over. So I prepared something nice for myself.
After that, I got myself dressed and went to the farm for some farm work as usual. No rest for livestock farmers. Every day is a working day. So we already got ourselves accustomed to this. Even on Sundays, you will still have to resume work. This was why I had to get to the farm yesterday.
The fries were doing fine, then I decided to change their water as always. It has to be changed every day. So I did that yesterday. This took a lot of my time before I could feed them. After feeding them the work for the day was over.
I decided to have a nice time with my family since everyone was present at home in preparation for the fast. Around evening time we were all outside and gisting. It was all fun as my sister kept on advertising the nature of her job to us, she kept on persuading us to get our life insured and started listing out the benefits of doing so. I wasn’t convinced at all.
When it was around late evening the sun had already set, then we awaited the announcement of the beginning of the new Islamic month, the month of Ramadan. This was in place of the moon sight. A few moments later, the announcement was made that the moon had been sighted in Saudi Arabia and the Nigeria Islamic Council had their announcement follow suit.
We were all happy and then prayed and rejoiced that the new month of Ramadan came upon us and we were able to witness the first day of it.
