An Idle Hand Is A Devil’s Workshop.
Idleness is something we can't stay away from in our lifetime. No matter how engaged we might feel we are, there shall come sometimes of idleness and boredom. It's just a part of nature’s play on humanity. In one way or another, we might get bored of a particular way of life we have been living. It might be a specific person we are living with, a certain hobby, food, the nature of our job, our relationship, and a lot more.
Most times we become idle due to overthinking. And this overthinking is a result of some scenarios or occurrences in our lives. One can get idle due to the fact that they lost their gadgets. Which means their gadget has been a source of activity for them. At times when we lose our close and loved ones we tend to experience boredom and idleness. This is because we tend not to see all of these people anymore.
I remember a time when my roommate had to travel home when we were in school. I should have travelled home too but I decided to stay behind. When everyone left for vacation I was alone in a four-bedroom apartment. Our hostel which has always been so noisy and fun to stay became so silent like the graveyard.
I might say I could listen to the sound of a pin dropping in the house. The first few days were still a little adaptive because I was able to move around and stroll along the street and sometimes I would just air outside on the verandah and watch whatever was happening on the street.
Maybe a week after, the coronavirus outbreak happened, and in just a few days everyone was declared to sit at home. That was when I knew I was hit with everlasting boredom. I couldn’t even go out as I wanted because of the curfew. Sitting outside the verandah that brought me fun and entertainment was no more because I couldn't even count the passersby on the street.
It became a battle for me, the question was how do I go about this lifestyle I found myself in? How do I overcome this boredom? Then I realized that I just have to keep myself more engaged.
No light to charge my device even if I continue with my online activities. I just can't sit idle. Then the next thing I did when my phone went off was to get a hoe and cutlass, I cleared the compound gradually and planted maize and melon. It was something so tedious for me, but I derived joy from doing them because I knew there would be something to show at the end of the day rather than just sitting idle.
The maize grew well and I was happy about my achievement. When the others would resume, I had an emergency and had to travel home. Before I came back they had already harvested all of the maize and melon upon my arrival. It was so annoying.
In conclusion,
Most times when I feel bored or realize I get so idle doing nothing, I will try to take a deep sleep and when I wake I make sure I get myself engaged with something, whether I am farming, having a do-it-yourself project, or stroll the streets, working on my device, playing games, watching movies and lot more. This method of battling boredom has been working perfectly fine for me over time.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 138 Edition 1 and the topic to be discussed is AN IDLE MIND

Interesting.
You do some gardening and cleaning to help with boredom? Very interesting. It's not very common, I should say.
Personally, I do more of cleaning.
Eehya! You didn't see the final outcome of your farming before harvesting. Hope you ate out of it?
No room for idleness when you are not a lazy youth like Buhari said🤣🤣
